You and I, Susanna Kaysen,
We learned how to die.
We learned to do it proper.
We became desensitized
by an extra Tylenol here and there,
a too hot shower.
We asked ourselves
at the movies.
We asked ourselves
while we prepared dinner.
We had rational conversations
of pros and cons.
When we woke up
one day we knew.
In the shower
(or a supermarket for you),
we died.
We died meticulously,
Without any fear.
Oh but it’s then
that it hurts it hurts.
We dont do it
as well as our Sylvia.
Maybe in her early days.
-we made it hurt like hell after all!
We tell them
“Really, I feel better now,
I’m quite alright”
to mimic her tulip twenties.
But no doubt-
we’ll be back for our thirties.
Yes, indeed,
The third time to die is the charm.
